Never really liked the cubist Picasso tho because his stuff was in all the art books I saw, I assumed "it must be good". I now realize this was the thin edge of the wedge that is driven into people today between their gut instincts and their thoughts.
Then I read the chapter on Picasso in Paul Johnson's "Modern Times"... 'Nuff said.
Well put. It seems the focus of art shifted from the subject, symbols and ideas .. to the artist and their internal experience being the center of their own universe that we were invited to worship. Modernism seems very Narcissistic to me.

Yep. I paint and based on his early work, he was talented. Then he took the ticket and promoted the ugly and disgusting.
